RAINRAP™- The Poncho Alternative
October 2013

Frustrated by the wet, humid weather in her new hometown, Richmond, Virginia, Stacy Struminger wanted a stylish alternative to the traditional waterproof poncho. A venting session with her friend, Rachel Teyssier, ended with the idea of fashioning the pashmina style into rainwear. RAINRAP™, a water resistant, stylish wrap was the result.
Struminger and Reyssier were not the only ones longing for a fashionable alternative to rainwear as their design recently won the Today’s Show Bright Idea contest. The Today Show partners with QVC on an annual basis to encourage women entrepreneurs.
The testers at Women’s Sourcebook (WS) all agree that the RAINRAP™ is a fashionable alternative to the traditional waterproof poncho. However, the testers feel that the design is better suited to the over 40 crowd unless they could wear the option featuring their alma mater logo. The team also agrees that the design needs to be longer to avoid the wet pant leg look when wearing it at a sporting event. All agree that the hood and light weight feature make it worth keeping in your car or backpack for those unexpected showers.
